TechLearnIT (TLit) was founded in 2007 as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. TLit was organized for educat–
ional, charitable, and scientific purposes. TLit's Founder is Nancy Pliska Robinson, Ph.D. It is her extensive experience in the work place and a strong desire to provide quality education to underserved individuals that encouraged her to create TechLearnIT.
TechlearnIT will serve more than 14,507 minority families throughout the South DeKalb County area with additional centers to be established in the Atlanta metropolitan area in the future. Our primary service will be to provide structured supplemental after-school programs and computer literacy training to children and adults through project-based activities designed to give more exposure to technology. As a link among educational institutions, TechLearnIT will also serve as a bridge from a training program to a college or post secondary institute.
The digital divide refers to African American and Hispanic American disproportionately low access to computers and the Internet. For the most part, the average American Internet user is more likely to be from white suburbs than from largely African American urban areas. For many struggling families, lack of funds for computers and Internet access threatens to increase the digital divide between the "haves" and the "have- nots" causing the cycle of poverty in our communities to worsen.
To overcome these barriers, it is TechLearnIT's vision of successfully "bridging the digital divide" by transitioning to broader uses of technology and working with schools and businesses for improved education, training, and employment prospects for disadvantaged community members.
In today's workforce, the key to success frequently depends on the effective use of computer technology and effective computer training.
We use a project-based approach to training that will provide you short, highly interactive, hands-on workshops with a highly skilled trainer. Our focus is to offer the most current software so that you will receive competitive updated skills and experiences.
TechLearnIT's logo was designed by Dr. Robinson. Recently, our Board Members, Liza Robinson and Gwen Johnson came up with the name "Bitsy" to characterize our mascot. Bitsy's face is a sphere representing the world. Since there are no features, Bitsy characterizes any gender and any ethnicity. Spanning his/her arms are 8 bits or one byte of binary digits. In computer terms, one byte equals one character. Programmers will understand the significance of 10100101.
